About us....
The Australian Outback Baby Project was created on October 4, 2012 by Maree Agland from Cowra in New South Wales, Australia. It is dedicated to her mother Lorraine who was a Mothercraft nurse at hospitals and orphanages in the late 1940's and early 1950's; a mother of 5 also. Dedicated to Billy who was born in Dubbo Base Hospital in 1951 and died at the age of 22 months, and above all it is dedicated in remembrance of all babies lost, and those fighting the battle of their tiny lives.
The project is to hand make clothes and items for miscarried and stillborn babies so that their families can bury their cherubs with love, compassion and dignity.
Preemie babies will also be catered for so that their stay in hospital will be a much more comfortable one.
The sets will be boxed up, delivered to hospitals, remote midwives and small outreach clinics in Outback Australia and rural NSW...... to be donated to Outback families who need them for the burial of their baby or for preemies.
The Project is 100% voluntary; some items such as some of the wool, fabrics, embellishments etc are donated by very kind donors. We receive no government funding what so ever or commercial grants.
Our committee consists of:
Maree Agland (President - NSW)
Antonia Fleming (Vice President - QLD)
Margaret Kelly (Knitting - NSW)
Bronwyn Barrett (Donations in Tasmania, smocks, gowns, sewing - TAS)
Jess Lane (Secretary, Sewing, knitting, crocheting, knitted toys - NSW)
